The Etisalat Awards for Children's Literature is a prestigious initiative that is organised and managed by the UAE Board on Books for Young People and sponsored by Etisalat Telecom.

Launched in 2009, the award has since become one of the most important awards for children's literature in the Arab world that aims to enrich a culture of reading and love of Arabic books among children by recognizing the best authors, illustrators and publishers of Arabic children's books.  

In its 12th edition, the Etisalat Award has shortlisted 13 books from seven different countries from a record 221 submissions across the Arab world and disapora. 

The ceremony will be held online next month where winners will be anounced receiving cash prizes that total AED 1 million.  

The Etisalat Award comprises six categories including; Children Book of the Year, Young Adult Book of the Year, Silent Book, Best Production, Best Illustration, Best Young Author, and Best Text. 

Among the shortlisted are; The Two Best Friends by Rand Adel Saber and illustrator Basma Haidar, Caught a Moon by Arwa Dawood Khumayyis and illustrator by Israa Hudayri, The Monster and I bAisha Abdullah Al Harithi, and and Shahrazizi’s Nights: A Tale Within a Tale Within a Tale by Hadeel Ghonim and illustrator Sahar Abdullah.

The annual competition also features a writing workshop, the ‘Warsha’ programme, which aims to discover and nurture a new generation of writers, illustrators and publishers.

The winners will be anounced on 05 November, 2020.
