This indispensable snake field guide is the first of its kind in Arabia. It provides comprehensive and illustrated descriptions of all the fifty-five species and subspecies of snakes indigenous of the Arabian Peninsula and its waters. With detailed information on how to identify snakes and distinguish them from similar species, treatment of snakebite and natural history, Snakes of Arabia is essential for anyone active in the Arabian outdoors.
Born in South Africa, Damien Egan started working professionally with reptiles in 1995. He has been working at the Breeding Centre for Endangered Arabian Wildlife, first as an assistant, and later as the HoD of Herpetology and Freshwater Fishes. Here he supervises the maintenance and breeding of a large collection of Arabian reptiles, amphibians and freshwater fish. His work has taken him to some of the most remote parts of Arabia, doing surveys, and conducting talks on snakes and reptiles. He has kept close company with all manner of reptiles, amphibians and other small wildlife from a tender age.
