Margaret Henderson was so bowled over by the beauty and mystique of Arabia that she decided to create this book, a beautiful collection of pencil sketches and paintings. The result is an artistic discovery of the traditional Arab world that is sure to conquer the imagination of all readers.
Margaret Henderson has been a compulsive book maker for as long as she can recall, "a family trait" she says, but this is her first full published work. In her native New Zealand, she was surrounded by paints and paper from childhood. Her mother was an accomplished watercolourist, and two of her sisters are painters. Her three children have followed suit, taking up artistic pursuits. She has taught at Dubai Art Centre, and earlier in her homeland, where she also worked as an illustrator. In 1985, she and her husband moved to Dubai, where she painted non-stop, immersed in her new surroundings. Sketchbook Arabia is the fruit of that interest.
