Footprints: Memoirs of an Indian Patriarch is the autobiography of Maghanmal J. Pancholia, a successful entrepreneur and a stalwart of the Indian community in Dubai, his home since 1942. The author travels back in time to walk through the alleys of his beloved Thatta, Sindh, in undivided India. Punctuating the narrative with anecdotes in his characteristically unassuming style, he traces the metamorphosis of Dubai from a quiet coastal town to a bustling city.
Maghanmal Pancholia is one of Dubai's most respected businessmen. He has received an admirable number of accolades and senior appointments over his last seventy-plus years in the country. He came to Dubai in 1942 to join the family pearl business, which later diversified into gold and money exchange, grocery stores, textiles, wholesale food, electronics and more. He recognised the need for electricity, and set up a firm to buy a generator and supply electricity to the markets around the city. He was later appointed as the Director of Dubai Electricity by the late Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. He has also had roles with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Al Maktoum Hospital.
