Flowers is the first collection of poems from Gulmehek Khan, who began writing poetry at the young age of seven. The thirty poems reflect the young poetess's experiences living in different countries, her love for the UAE and Sheikh Mohammed, as well as her everyday musings on her school, friends and parents.
The title of the collection is inspired by the author's name, which literally translates to "fragrance of flowers". The poems give readers a unique glimpse into the colourful mind of a child and how she sees the world around her. Her innocence, curiosity and honesty shine through, making it a delightful read for all ages.
Gulmehek Khan started writing poetry at the age of seven, and at eleven years old, she is the world's youngest published poetess. Born in 2004 in Saudi Arabia, she was raised in Canada and moved to Dubai in 2014 with her family. Her distinct experiences in these two countries have inspired many of her poems. She has won several awards for academic achievements, theatre and sports. An avid tennis player, she also enjoys horseback riding, golf and skating. She finds her inspiration in public figures like Dubai's Ruler, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, whom she feels have brought positive changes to people's lives. Her motto in life is to stand up for oneself, a message she shares through many of her poems.
