In just over three generations and within the past half-century, the small Emirate of Dubai, which unlike many states in the region has not had the benefit of huge oil resources, has raised its profile globally through a range of bold developments and clever ideas. These include its free zones for business, its biennial air show, the Dubai World Cup horse race, its development as a tourist centre that is home to some of the most stunning hotels in the world, and the development of various projects adding to its ever-changing landscape.
Jeffrey L. Sampler is Fellow of Strategy and Technology at Templeton College, Oxford University. His research interests include electronic commerce, the management of information as a strategic resource, and developing information based strategies. He is also a frequent speaker at conferences and corporate management retreats. Saeb Eigner is a management graduate of London Business School, where he serves as a Governor, Founder and Chair of its Middle East Regional Advisory Board. He also served as Chair of the School's Alumni Board. Educated in England and fluent in a number of languages, including Arabic. He is a frequent traveller to the Gulf for business and to speak at strategy, academic and economic events.
