Ram Buxani narrates the engrossing story of his own life in Taking the High Road, starting from the carefree days of his childhood to his catapult to maturity as an employee with ITL in Dubai; his growth to success by sheer perseverance, and his fulfilment of many roles as a son, husband, father and grandfather.
Alongside his life story, Ram Buxani records the history and spirit of the Sindhi Hindu community, displaced from their homeland during the partition of the Indian subcontinent. Based on first-hand experience, he shares the horrors of partition, the rebuilding of lives from scratch, the important role of Sindhi women, the spread of the Sindhi diaspora around the world and the eventual triumph of the community.
First published in 2003, Ram Buxani's autobiography has since been translated into several languages, including Sindhi, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi and Urdu.
Ram Buxani has been a resident of Dubai for over fifty years and is the President of ITL Group. He is a prominent spokesperson of the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) community and has played a key role in interacting with the Indian Government on their behalf. A recipient of the coveted 'Man of the Year' award from the Hong Kong-based Bharat Ratna magazine representing the worldwide Indian community, he has also received the Shield from the President of India, among other honours. He is the Founder-Chairman of the Overseas Indians Economic Forum, UAE, a prime NRI organization which recently merged with the Indian Business & Professional Council. He is a board member of Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs, Dubai, and is connected with various other charitable and voluntary organizations, including Rotary Club of Jumeirah.
