Al Khaleej and Beyond: Reflections of Two Artists is a compilation of paintings and anecdotes on the authors' travels in Al Khaleej, which includes the Arabian Gulf states of Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. It includes an absorbing selection of work on the countries situated beyond the Gulf: Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Yemen. This engrossing work by two talented artists and raconteurs will appeal to lovers of art and anyone who seeks to learn more about this intriguing region.
Peter Lawrence's thirty-seven-year career took him and his family to Saudi Arabia in the late 1970s. He began to study the work of a variety of artists and dabble with watercolours. Peter's work is displayed in many homes and offices in the UK and the UAE, and a Sharjah hotel has used his work throughout. He has also had solo and joint exhibitions in Dubai.
Mike Shepley graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in Architecture in 1967 and completed his academic studies with a post-graduate diploma two years later. Developing interests in film and still photography produced a change in professional direction before he arrived in Dubai in January 1982. He has received an Andrew Grant Scholarship from the Edinburgh College of Art, a gold medal from the Dubai International Art Centre, and first prizes in the DIAC Members Annual Exhibition and Watercolour Challenge.
