Frauke Heard-Bey was born in Berlin and grew up in a small town of Württemberg. She studied History and Political Science in Heidelberg and obtained her PhD from the Freie Universität in Berlin. In 1967 she followed her English husband to Abu Dhabi. In 1969 she joined the Centre for Documentation and Research, now an institute of the Presidential Court in Abu Dhabi for the collection of archival material about the Gulf and the Arabian Peninsula.
